Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) is seeking to appoint a Junior Communications Officer to join their team. They are seeking a competent and organised professional for a full-time two-year employment contract with the prospect of extension subject to organisational needs and proven performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support communication and publicity campaigns.
  • Draft press releases, blog posts and other content for various platforms, including social media, website and newsletters.
  • Maintain social media accounts and monitor engagement.
  • Develop and update presentations and other design materials, laying out documents.
  • Update website and maintain organisation profiles.
  • Execute newsletters and internal Slack updates.
  • Ensure contact lists and databases are up to date.
  • Assist in drafting and submitting regular reports to funders and investors.
  • Conduct ad hoc research on issues related to media development, press freedom, the news business and impact investing.

Key Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ professional experience in communications in an NGO, civil society, international development or media organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (to native speaker standard) required; additional languages are an asset.
  • Strong social media skills, comfortable grasp of graphic design, proficiency in PowerPoint, Canva, WordPress and email marketing platforms.
  • Creativity and attention to detail, self-starter, well-organised and proactive work style, ability to adhere to deadlines.
  • An international outlook and an ability to work productively with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • University degree in communications, media, journalism, public policy, political science, international affairs or another relevant field preferred.
  • A passion for freedom of the press.
