BBC News is seeking a Journalist, Vertical Video to join its newsroom in Salford or Cardiff. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of mobile-first video storytelling, producing engaging vertical video content for the BBC News website, app, and social platforms. The position is offered as a 12-month full-time contract/attachment, with a salary range of £28,400–£36,800, depending on skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce, script, edit, and publish high-quality vertical videos for BBC News platforms, including breaking news and planned story carousels.
  • Work closely with correspondents and reporters to adapt stories for digital-first audiences.
  • Pitch and develop new creative video treatments for daily news coverage.
  • Ensure video output meets the BBC’s editorial guidelines, especially on complex or sensitive stories.
  • Collaborate across BBC teams to showcase the best of BBC content in mobile-first formats.
  • Monitor audience research and analytics to shape content strategy and grow engagement.
  • Contribute to weekend and shift-based coverage as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience scripting, producing, and editing digital video content.
  • Proficiency in Final Cut Pro (FCP) and/or Adobe Premiere.
  • Strong understanding of digital video storytelling for different audiences, with an ability to make content accessible and engaging.
  • Experience using analytics and audience insights to inform editorial decisions.
  • Ability to think creatively and propose new formats for video storytelling.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to contribute effectively to multiple teams.
  • Track record of delivering content to deadline and at the highest editorial standard.
