Contexte is seeking a Journalist specialising in environmental issues to join its Brussels team. The selected candidate will play a key role in reporting on the development of European environmental policies, producing both daily briefings and in-depth analyses that help readers anticipate policy developments and understand decision-making processes.

This role requires strong reporting skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to work across multiple timeframes — from short-form updates to longer investigative pieces and data-driven features.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and report on EU environmental policy developments and their political context.
  • Produce daily briefings with relevant updates sourced through reporting, monitoring, and on-the-ground insights.
  • Write long-form articles and analytical pieces, occasionally in collaboration with the data team for infographics and visual storytelling.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in Brussels and Paris, especially on cross-border and Franco-European stories.
  • Participate in Contexte Live sessions — 45-minute virtual events for readers, alongside other journalists or expert guests.
  • Contribute to internal discussions on the strategic and editorial development of the organisation.
  • Uphold and embody Contexte’s core values of freedom, trust, and collective intelligence.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in journalism (a journalism degree is not mandatory).
  • Strong interest in and understanding of environmental issues and EU policymaking.
  • Solid knowledge of EU institutions, lobbying dynamics, and policy processes.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent time management and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Open-minded and eager to learn, experiment, and step out of your comfort zone.
  • Committed to quality journalism and respectful of a healthy work-life balance.
