Investigative Journalism Training Camp for Young Journalists

Within the scope of the “Strengthening the Quality of Reporting and Independent Journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey” Project, the Journalists Association will host a training camp to provide “Investigative Journalism Training” to 10 young journalists.

Objectives
  • The training camp aims to provide journalists with the practical training and experience transfer they need to produce quality original news content.
  • Experienced journalists, academics and experts will be in charge at the Training Camp. The Boot Camp will be based on the basics of investigative journalism, ethics and principles of practice. There will be theoretical training and workshops on data journalism, artificial intelligence and the use of new technologies in journalism.
  • The micro-projects will be granted up to €1.000 per participant; providing assistance to professional sustainability will be the underlying theme of this support mechanism. The implementation period of micro projects will last for a maximum of 3 months and will start on 1st June 2024.
Eligibility Criteria

Training camp applications will open on 1 April 2024 and will continue until 30 April 2024. The applicant who is entitled to participate in the training camp and thus can receive support for micro projects must meet the following conditions:

  • Journalists from Türkiye and Western Balkans
  • To be under 35 years old
  • Being a Journalism/Communication graduate (priority group) or having been worked as a journalist for at least two years (priority group)
  • Being a freelance journalist
  • Being a journalist working in any organisation.
  • Women applicants will be prioritized.

Young journalists under the age of 35 from Turkey and the Western Balkans can apply for the camp. 10 journalists will be selected from the applicants.

The language of instruction is in Turkish. For the participants from the Western Balkans, the training will be conducted via zoom and translation via zoom will be available.

The training camp will be held between 27-31 May 2024 at Bizim Çatı Hotel in Gölbaşı, Ankara. The training will include theoretical lectures, practical workshops and discussion meetings with experienced journalists and experts.

Journalists who are eligible to participate in the training are required to attend all sessions of the camp.
