Donor Landscape Assessment Contractor

Internews seeks a consultant to conduct a donor and stakeholder landscape assessment, with the aim of providing an overview and analysis of opportunities in the media and information space in India.

The specific objectives are:

  • To identify map out the donor landscape in India and/or Asia whose work supports media development/media sector in India;
  • To identify other stakeholders (beyond donors) who are involved in the media sector in India;
  • To provide information and recommendations that can support Internews in identifying programing areas, gaps, and potential focus points for donor outreach;
  • To map existing media literacy/ journalism capacity building initiatives along with information on key actors in the field, local partners and funders;
  • To document previous initiatives, including media literacy, fact-checking, dis/misinformation, investigative journalism, journalist capacity training in general, and provide donor and partner information where available;
  • To create a donor outreach list with contact details  along with focus areas preferred by them;
  • Create a potential local partner list with contact details for outreach purposes.
Method and scope of Assessment:

The assessment will comprise of desk research and potentially some interviews, such as with Internews country teams and donors supporting media and information work, in the media sector in the Asia and Pacific region.

It will include information on donor policy and strategic plans, and what projects are funded – including under themes, such as environment and climate change, disaster response, disinformation, and so on. It will also cover where projects are implemented, and how this funding is delivered – to national or international partners, through competitive calls or otherwise, et cetera. It will look at both regional and national aid programs and philanthropic funds.

Management structure:

Applicants may be an individual or a team of consultants. Selected applicant will report directly to Aakanksha Sharma, Asia Program Associate.


The assessment should start in December 2022 with a goal to get a draft Donor Landscape Assessment report by end of December 2022.


The consultant shall deliver the following:

  • A draft donor and stakeholder landscape report not exceeding 15 pages. The report shall be in English, using font Times News Roman and font 12;
  • A list of donors and potential local partners that Internews might be able to collaborate with in an excel sheet format that includes their organization’s name, individual names, titles, brief description of their responsibilities, the organization’s main focus, and link to their website;
  • A power point presentation to go over major findings for the Internews team. The presentation shall be conducted virtually at an agreed time between the consultant and Internews.
  • Graduate or post-graduate degree in social sciences, international development, evaluation, or related field;
  • At least 5 years’ experience conducting research and analysis on international development, especially relating to media development and information access, in India, Asia Pacific and/or globally;
  • Good knowledge of bilateral, multilateral, and philanthropic donors that support media and information projects in the region;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Excellent spoken and written English; Asian language ability is a plus;
  • Excellent inter-cultural communication skills/cultural sensitivity and the ability to forge strong cross-cultural relationships and build trust demonstrated through previous experience;
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, writing and communication skills.
  • Experience conducting donor analysis for media development projects;
  • Experience working in different country across Asia and the Pacific.

This is a remote-based position. Remote candidates based in India will be considered; however, you must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews.
