International Federation Of Journalists – Researcher on Gender and Media

As part of a project to update UNESCO’s Gender-Sensitive Indicators in media, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is looking to appoint a researcher to join its gender equality team for 5 months starting on 15th February 2021.

Description of the work

Under the supervision of the IFJ Gender Officer, the researcher will:

  • Provide an evaluation of the performance of UNESCO 2010 Gender Sensitive Indicators
  • Help revise UNESCO’s gender sensitive indicators in media
  • Contribute to the development of an implementation methodology

Qualifications and competences

  • Holder of a research degree in Journalism and/or Gender Equality
  • Proven experience of research work on gender and media
  • Strong knowledge of the news industry and journalism across the world
  • Strong knowledge of gender equality challenges in media, including intersectionality
  • Good understanding of social media’s role and impact on journalism
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent level of English (native speaker level), French and Spanish
  • Flexibility, good soft skills and an attention to detail
  • Good understanding of trade unionism is an asset

Working conditions

  • 26 working days spread over 5 months
  • Salary based on experience
  • The work can be done remotely
  • The work will start on 15th February for a duration of 5 months.
