Internews seeks to hire an Information Management Officer who will support offline community engagement undertaken by Internews’s local partner, including regular coordination and follow up, data management and supporting MEAL reporting.

The Information Management Officer will take part in training and coaching the partner on best community engagement practices, co-design the community listening events and analyse data to produce reports and recommendations for humanitarian actors to improve their interventions.

Responsibilities

As Information Management Officer, you will:

  • Support the training of Internews’ local partner on community engagement methodologies;
  • Co-design community listening circles in the target locations with Internews’ local partner and coordinate the organisation of the events and reporting;
  • Collate and clean up data from different data streams (face-to-face, listening groups, social media) to enable data analysis in a continuous and consistent way;
  • Contribute to the production of rumor bulletins/other formats through data visualisation and graphic design;
  • Provide regular updates to the Data Analyst on relevant topics and trends;
  • Support Monitoring and Evaluation activities to assess impact, reach and quality of the ongoing project;
  • Support a team of Community Liaisons to maintain data collection best practices and minimum standards;
  • Follow protocol to escalate any communication from vulnerable cases to Protection Specialists;
  • Share opinions, feedback, cultural awareness, contextual knowledge, and learning with the wider team on an ongoing basis;
  • Contribute to the production of regular reports for humanitarian partners to improve their understanding of the concerns and questions among the affected population;
  • Provide input into research activities by sharing recurrent or emerging topics and trends from social media data and practices;
  • Support the development of strategies to address mis- and disinformation in offline settings;
  • Keep up to date with related team activities and engage with colleagues as needed to support content development, two-way communication, and presentations to humanitarian stakeholders;
  • Perform other services as mutually agreed.
Required qualifications
  • Strong understanding of the humanitarian system to ensure data collection (Kobo, ODK) and provision follows the Core Humanitarian Standards;
  • Experience working in Sudan and/or with Sudanese populations;
  • Native speaker or fluent in colloquial Sudanese Arabic;
  • An excellent level of English (B2 or higher);
  • Experience in managing qualitative data, data collection, social listening, qualitative research or similar skills;
  • Clear communication skills with an understanding of the subtlety of language and an ability to apply communication guidelines in written responses;
  • High emotional intelligence and experience engaging with individuals and families in crisis;
  • Ability to work autonomously and to communicate with remote team members and supervisors;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong computer proficiency and competence with basic software tools – can navigate autonomously in Windows, Android, Skype, Microsoft Suite and Google docs;
  • The commitment to going above and beyond in the quest to give people in crisis accurate information.
Preferred qualifications

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience working with refugees, migrants or displaced people in a voluntary or professional capacity;
  • An accredited bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field;
  • A basic level of understanding of the host country’s language (if different from your own);
  • Experience in a humanitarian organisation;
  • Knowledge of refugee issues in Sudan/East and Horn of Africa;
  • Experience conducting social science research.
