IREX (International Research & Exchanges Board) is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to provide monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) expertise for short-term SAFE operations in East Africa. The consultancy will support data capture, reporting, and learning activities related to digital and holistic safety trainings tailored to local contexts.
This role is part of IREX’s ongoing efforts to strengthen media resilience and promote safe environments for journalists and civil society actors.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct data collection and evaluation of project activities (both in-person and remote) to assess learning outcomes and implementation quality.
- Support communication and follow-up with project beneficiaries.
- Prepare training and activity reports, analyzing results and trends for internal and external use.
- Provide evaluation documentation and contribute to program improvement strategies based on findings.
- Assist in developing and refining evaluation tools and methodologies.
- Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure learning data informs programmatic decisions.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Proven experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Background in applied research, qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and indicator tracking.
- Familiarity with the East African media and civil society landscape.
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-cultural settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related tools.
- Experience conducting MEL for education or training programs.
- Knowledge of regional languages such as Swahili, Amharic, Somali, Hausa, Yoruba, or Lingala.
- Experience working in high-risk environments or with media development projects.
- Training-related experience and ability to travel within East Africa.
