Graduate News Journalist

The Citizen, a division of CTP Limited and one of South Africa’s leading newspaper publishers, is offering an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate with a passion for breaking news and digital media. The successful candidate will join the digital team and contribute to content production for citizen.co.za, one of the country’s top online news platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce timely, accurate, and engaging news content in a fast-paced, breaking-news environment.
• Contribute to the digital newsroom, creating articles for the website and online platforms.
• Participate in a structured 12-month newsroom training programme beginning February 2026.
• Work alongside mentors and editorial teams to gain practical newsroom experience.
• Engage in project-based work designed to strengthen journalistic and multimedia skills.

Eligibility & Requirements

• Recent graduate (Class of 2025 or graduating in 2026) with a degree or diploma in journalism, media studies, or a related field.
• No previous full-time work experience (non-paid internships required for graduation are allowed).
• Strong interest in breaking news and digital journalism.
• Good academic record, strong communication and analytical skills, and computer literacy.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom setting.
• Commitment to contributing positively to the diversity of the organisation.
