Submissions are now open for the GIJC25 Global Shining Light Award, sponsored by the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN). GIJN honours investigative journalism in developing or transitioning countries, carried out under threat, duress, or challenging conditions.
About the Global Shining Light Award
The award recognises investigative work that originated in and affected a Global South country and was broadcast or published between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024. Submissions will be considered in two categories:
- Small & Medium Outlets (organisations with 20 or fewer staff, including freelancers)
- Large Outlets (organisations with more than 20 staff)
Fellowship Requirements
- Applicants must have independent investigative reporting that originated in and affected a Global South country.
- The reporting must have been published or broadcast between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024.
- The investigation must have uncovered an issue, wrongdoing, or corruption that significantly impacted the common good.
- Applicants should have faced arrest, imprisonment, violence, threats, or intimidation in the course of their work.
- Journalism teams or individual journalists from small, medium, or large outlets are eligible to apply.
- Submissions must be in English or include a detailed English-language summary for non-English work.
- Online links to work samples should be provided.
