The call for applications for the International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) German-Turkish Fellowship Programme 2026 is now open. The German-Turkish Fellowship Programme offers young Turkish journalists the opportunity to spend two months working at a media outlet in Germany to enhance their professional skills and deepen their understanding of the country’s political, economic, and cultural landscape.

What the programme offers
- Five young Turkish journalists are selected to work as temporary correspondents at host media outlets in Germany.
- During their two-month stay, participants gain valuable insights into the structure of Germany’s economy and political system while also learning about German culture and the everyday operations of a professional media organization.
- The fellowship also allows participants to strengthen their journalistic abilities by working closely with experienced professionals in German media institutions.
- This hands-on exposure helps them develop reporting skills, understand international media practices, and build professional networks.
- In addition to working at their host organizations, participants are encouraged to produce news reports about Germany for media outlets in their home country.
- This approach helps share perspectives and knowledge about Germany with audiences in Turkey while also promoting informed cross-border dialogue.
- The programme provides a one-time scholarship of €4,000 to support the fellows during their stay in Germany. This allows them to focus on their professional development and reporting work throughout the two-month period.
Eligibility
- Applications are open to yound Turkish media professionals (staff and freelance journalists) between the ages of 25 and 37.
- Candidates do not need any prior knowledge of German or Turkish, however a very good command of English is mandatory.
How to apply
The deadline for applications is March 31, 2026. (The date the application is mailed or the date the email is sent will be taken as the basis.). Required documents for application include :
- Resume with photo.
- A letter of intent explaining the candidate’s reason for participating in this program.
- A letter of reference from the editor-in-chief or unit head, stating the candidate’s field of work and level of journalistic knowledge.
- A maximum of four news examples previously published by the candidates.
- Television and radio employees are requested to send news examples in MP3 format. Text format is sufficient for news.
- A request for a fellowship location can be indicated.
- Applications can be in English or German.
