Journalismfund Europe is looking for a driven financial manager to join their team. This is a key position within the organisation, responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, managing budgets, and supporting informed strategic decision-making.
The Financial Manager reports to the Managing Director of Journalismfund Europe vzw and to the Board of Directors.
Specific tasks
Finance includes the following:
- Control of all financial matters, updating the accounts, preparation of payments and ensuring compliance with the tax obligations;
- Preparing and monitoring annual accounts, management reports and forecasts;
- Managing the budgeting process: from planning and analysis to control and reporting to the Belgian authorities, the EC and other donors.
- Ensure correct corporate governance and compliance of the organisation;
- Advise and support the project coordinators regarding financial questions and issues.
Human Resources:
- Responsibilities include coordinating human resources, including contracts, payroll administration, social security and employment law;
- Lead best practices and policies including by championing diversity and inclusion, and staff learning and development.
Other duties as required. Includes the following:
- Report regularly to the Managing Director and the Board of Directors;
- Coordination with the company auditors and the Belgian tax authorities;
Requirements
- A master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accountancy, or a similar discipline;
- Belgian resident and eligible to work in Belgium;
- Minimum five years of relevant professional experience;
- Excellent knowledge of French or Dutch with fluency in the English language (both written and verbal communication skills);
- Knowledge of Belgian accounting and tax regulations and Belgian legislation;
- Strong analytical and communication skills;
- Accurate, proactive and hands on;
- Experience in people management and managing, coaching and developing employees;
- Knowledge of accounting software Exact (or similar).
Nice to haves:
- An interest for the world of journalism and the role played by journalists in our society;
- Experience in the nonprofit sector.
Offer
- Full-time position (38 hours/week). One-year term with possibility of renewal.
- An interesting salary and benefits package (a gross salary between €40,000 to € 65,000 annually, depending on the level of experience).
- Offices located in Brussels (Belgium).
