N-ost is a Berlin-based non-profit organisation supporting quality journalism and cross-border collaboration across Europe, with a strong focus on Eastern Europe and beyond. They are seeking an External Communications Manager to strategically sharpen n-ost’s messaging, expanding reach and deepening impact as a key driver of their public voice.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop core narratives and tailor tone-of-voice for diverse target audiences (journalists, the general public, individual donors, and institutional funders).
- Produce, write, and edit high-quality communication outputs, including the regular newsletter/donation campaigns, website content, and the Annual Report.
- Strategically develop and oversee social media presence (LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook) in close collaboration with the Social Media Manager.
- Act as the primary contact for media inquiries and proactively identify opportunities for public positioning and press coverage.
- Manage and respond to external inquiries and proposals via email or phone.
- Assist the team in drafting compelling grant proposals and funding applications.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, PR, or a closely related field (ideally within the NGO or media sector).
- Proven track record in developing and executing communication strategies.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills in English (working language). Professional proficiency in German is a strong asset.
- A deep interest in journalism trends, media development, and current European affairs.
- Comfortable and thriving in a diverse, international, and non-profit environment.
- Confident using digital communication tools, analytics, CMS, and AI-assisted workflows to optimize content creation.
