The Center for News, Technology & Innovation (CNTI) is hiring a full-time Communications Manager to lead our external messaging and digital presence. This role will focus on amplifying CNTI’s work in independent media, open internet policy, and technology through strategic storytelling, media relations, and event support.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Editorial Calendar: Develop and manage a robust editorial calendar to ensure a consistent cadence of “owned” content across all current channels (website, LinkedIn, newsletters), ensuring alignment with CNTI’s broader strategic objectives.
  • Newsletter & Guest Essay Management: Own the end-to-end production of CNTI’s monthly flagship newsletter. This includes drafting original copy, sourcing and scheduling guest essays from global experts, and maintaining a rigorous publication schedule to drive subscriber growth.
  • Content Follow-Ons & Repackaging: Lead the “long-tail” content approach by repurposing our major research reports and primers into accessible formats—such as social media graphics, blog summaries, and newsletter highlights—to extend their lifespan and reach. This includes some original writing and editing.
  • Website Management: Maintain primary ownership of the CNTI website’s management and content, serving as the main liaison with the website development team.
  • Digital Growth & Analytics: Track and report on key success metrics (e.g., newsletter subscriber growth, social media engagement, website returning visitors) to refine our strategy and demonstrate impact to leadership and funders.
  • Event Communications Execution: Execute communications plans for signature “key moment” events (e.g., Newsgeist, report launches) to maximise visibility and attendee engagement.
  • Stakeholder & Media Relations (Domestic & International): Support targeted pitching to leading figures in media, tech, and policy, and manage day-to-day media inquiries to build CNTI’s reputation as a trusted resource.
  • Infrastructure Building: Assist in establishing and documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs) for content workflows, ensuring consistency and efficiency as the team scales.

Knowledge and skills required

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to synthesise complex information.
  • 3-5 years of experience in business writing and editing, journalism and communications.
  • Experience working with international teams or adapting communications for global audiences (understanding of EU or Global South media landscapes is a plus).
  • Proficiency with digital tools and social media platforms (e.g., WordPress, Google Suite, Analytics)
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a remote environment.
  • Familiarity with media policy, technology, or journalism sectors is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with a distributed team.

Education and experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Policy,  Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience working with non-profits, think tanks, or startups preferred.

The position reports to the Executive Director & Director of Communications. Remote, with travel to Washington, DC, for team events and potential travel to CNTI-hosted events. Washington, DC area is preferred but not required.
