Job Description

Syli is looking for an experienced and capable Editor to join our climateXchange project. This varied role combines content production and editing work with programme strategy and workshop facilitation.

The position is for an immediate start, and is a hybrid role primarily working remotely, but with occasional in-person meetings in either London or Surrey. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. You will need to ensure you have access to a suitable professional and confidential environment with a reliable internet connection to carry out your duties.

The position is full time over Monday to Friday. Core hours are between 9am and 5pm with some flexibility required to meet business needs and some overseas travel will be required. This is a fixed term contract ending 31st March 2024. However, pending securing the required funding, we intend for this to become a multi-year programme.

The pay for this position is £60,275 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and curate the digital content hub and website homepage.
  • Commission, translate and produce visual content.
  • Work with network partners to support commissioning and reporting.
  • Work with news leaders to set editorial priorities around climate reporting.
  • Facilitate editorial focused knowledge sharing workshops.
  • Facilitate solutions-focused workshops with news leaders.
  • Support drafting of industry reports
  • Provide insight on the latest editorial and visual trends that are meaningful to audiences.
  • Other work to expand and support Syli’s programmes.

Qualifications
About You

We have identified what we think you’ll need to know and have done, in order to do well in this role. You’ll have a background in journalism or communications alongside experience editing and commissioning editorial content. You will be able to demonstrate a background in reaching diverse audiences using innovative methods. This experience may be in the media, climate or nonprofit sector.

  • At least 3 years successful editorial experience with media, media development, nonprofits, government or philanthropic funded projects.
  • Proficient in editing and organizing editorial and visual content to a high standard.
  • Experience setting up and implementing reporting workflows and in commissioning editorial content.
  • Experience in facilitating virtual workshops across organizations.
  • Ability to prioritize in collaboration with others, balancing strategic and tactical.
  • Excited about being able to help bring about an ecosystem change in the news industry.

Technical

  • Proficiency in WordPress, Adobe After Effects, Premiere and Photoshop is desirable.
  • Able to analyze data to support an understanding of target audiences, behavior and reaction to content.
  • Familiar with the latest trends in climate storytelling.
  • Experience using social media for news and storytelling.
  • Passion for climate reporting, additional languages, and experience with Slack and Google workspace are beneficial.
