The International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) is seeking an outstanding individual to lead both external partnerships and resource mobilization. The ideal candidate will bring senior competencies in government relations and fundraising expertise to help IFPIM both sustain its existing relationships and build new ones to support the Fund’s work and growth.

The Role 

The Head of Partnerships will play a key role on IFPIM’s leadership team and will regularly represent IFPIM in high-level donor engagements, in particular with governments and the private sector.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Partnerships will:

  • Develop, implement and refine IFPIM’s fundraising strategy and support the CEO in securing sustained, multi-year funding commitments from a range of partners (including bilateral and multilateral public sector partners and the private sector) to scale IFPIM
  • Build networks with current and potential donors to develop strong and sustained partnerships
  • Provide leadership in building new relationships with key stakeholders, in particular governments and other public interest bodies that IFPIM engages with
  • Build networks within the media development and international development communities to ensure collaboration with IFPIM
  • Support the CEO and collaborate with other senior leaders to design and implement the Fund’s multi-year strategy
  • Externally represent IFPIM as an ambassador to the Fund
  • Work closely with donors to coordinate and standardize funding agreements and reporting requirements
  • Lead a small team of donor management professionals to ensure timely and comprehensive donor reporting.

Candidate Profile 

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Extensive prior experience cultivating sustained relationships with donors, in particular, high-level government representatives
  • Demonstrated track record of managing relationships with governments, corporates, and other stakeholders
  • Commitment to independent journalism and IFPIM’s mission
  • Character and background to command credibility, legitimacy, and respect in the international development, democracy, and media sectors
  • Experience directly supervising a team of professionals
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work to a deadline, including when balancing overlapping priorities
  • Ability to develop, articulate, and implement a clear strategic vision for resource mobilization and external partnership development
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with a willingness to contribute to the creation of a new institution and to operate in contexts with possible high levels of uncertainty
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills.

Desirable Experience 

  • Experience working collaboratively across a range of functional areas and geographies, including in a remote setting and as a direct supervisor.
  • Prior experience working with a range of international development actors (experience in the media development sector a plus).
  • Strong networks with donors and other stakeholders potentially interested in supporting IFPIM’s work and mission.

Education 

University degree (Masters or Doctoral degree would be an advantage)

Language 

IFPIM’s working language will be English but fluency in French would be an advantage for this role.
