BBC Media Action is seeking a Country Director to lead its operations in Tanzania. This role will focus on managing the BBC Media Action Tanzania Office, ensuring the successful implementation of media-driven development projects. Reporting to the Regional Director, Africa and Middle East, the position involves project management, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, and operational oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and overall management of BBC Media Action’s Tanzania office.
- Oversee the implementation of media-focused development projects, including governance, women and girls’ rights, youth participation, media development, climate change, and nutrition.
- Manage and develop a diverse team, ensuring high standards of performance, accountability, and professional integrity.
- Lead business development efforts, identifying new funding opportunities, managing relationships with donors and partners, and overseeing the writing of project proposals.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, local regulatory laws, and BBC Media Action policies.
- Represent BBC Media Action in Tanzania, engaging with government officials, donors, media partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure safeguarding measures are integrated into project design, staff training, and partner engagements, particularly when working with vulnerable populations.
- Monitor financial and operational performance, ensuring effective use of resources and budget compliance.
- Maintain regular communication with BBC Media Action’s UK office on operational, legal, financial, and editorial matters.
- Oversee security planning and risk management for staff and projects in Tanzania.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Extensive experience in leadership and management of diverse teams in media or development sectors.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale, donor-funded projects, preferably in Tanzania.
- Strong experience in navigating politically sensitive environments and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and secure funding for international development or media projects.
- Significant experience in budget management and operational oversight.
- Ability to build strong relationships with government, media, and international development organizations.
- Experience in safeguarding policies and best practices, ensuring compliance in all project activities.
- Excellent public speaking, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
