IFEX is looking for a Communications Specialist to join their team and help strengthen the organisation’s communications capacity.

Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Communications Specialist will:

  • Write and edit various materials, including website copy, social media posts, captions, articles, newsletters, emails to members and allies, and press releases.
  • Find and commission suitable visual content to accompany articles.
  • Manage the IFEX content calendar for different communication channels, including social media, website, and newsletters, and assist with its implementation.
  • Coordinate communication projects, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with designers, videographers and writers to produce assets for campaigns, social media, and publications.
  • Design assets in accordance with brand guidelines, using pre-made templates
  • Monitor and analyse engagement metrics and provide suggestions for improving communications impact.

To do this work, you will need:

  • 3 + years’ experience in communications or content creation. Experience working with or within creative agencies is an asset.
  • 1+ years’ experience collaborating with designers (e.g., writing briefs, providing feedback) and using tools such as Figma and Adobe Suite to update and adapt existing templates.
  • University degree in a related field or equivalent experience

What you bring to the role:

  • Highly developed communication (verbal and written) skills, including the ability to craft and edit compelling content across formats, adapt messaging for diverse audiences and develop narratives aligned with the organisation’s strategic positioning. Fluency in English is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management, including strong organisational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of the practices and techniques of branding, web and print design principles, and UX.
  • Basic knowledge of web content management systems (e.g. WordPress), social media management tools (e.g. Buffer), email content management systems (e.g. Mailer Lite) and analytics tools.
  • Basic knowledge of current events and the ability to contextualise communications accordingly are assets.

Location: The IFEX Secretariat is a distributed team and all staff work remotely. This position is a remote role. All staff are required to be available and online between the hours of 10am and 3pm EST. Some travel may be required.

Payment, terms and conditions: The starting salary is $68,212-72,224 CAD depending on experience, accompanied by a comprehensive and generous benefits package. This is a full-time position with a start date 1 April 2026.
