The Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) is looking for a motivated and creative Communications Intern to support the Next-IJ project – an EU-funded initiative designed to offer new, innovative training solutions for investigative reporting by equipping journalists with cutting-edge tools, advanced data analysis capabilities, and enhanced cross-border collaboration networks. This role is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about journalism, digital communications, and EU-funded media initiatives. The intern will primarily contribute to the communications, content production, and outreach for the Next-IJ project, while also assisting with broader GFMD communications as needed.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of the communications strategy for the Next-IJ project, including website content, news updates, newsletters, and social media.
- Research and draft engaging content tailored to journalists, media organisations, and EU stakeholders.
- Support the design and distribution of the Next-IJ newsletter, including content writing, layout, and performance tracking.
- Assist in updating and managing the Next-IJ website (Gitbook-based).
- Help create visuals and multimedia assets using tools like Canva.
- Coordinate outreach to project partners and stakeholders.
- Assist with event promotion and follow-up.
- Provide additional support for GFMD’s communications work, including content for GFMD newsletters, social media, reports, and events when needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a degree programme in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience writing various types of content – including articles, reports, social media posts, and web content.
- Experience managing websites (especially WordPress) and publishing digital content.
- Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Canva (or similar platforms).
- Experience with creating and managing newsletters (e.g., Mailchimp) is a strong advantage.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English; other languages are a plus.
- Familiarity with social media strategy and digital engagement tools.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Duration and Remuneration
This is a full-time internship, requiring 30-32 hours per week. The internship provides a monthly stipend of 400 euros. The position is for 4 months, with the possibility of extension.
