The position of Communication and Public Information Officer is located in the Research Department (RESEARCH) of the ILO, which conducts research on labour, employment, and social protection issues to contribute to policy formulation by ILO constituents at national and global levels. RESEARCH assesses key trends related to the world of work, including new technologies, demographic patterns, environmental and climate change, financial developments, and globalization. The department produces flagship reports such as the annual World Employment and Social Outlook and conducts studies on economic growth and social equity.

The Communication and Public Information Officer will contribute to RESEARCH’s work by supporting communications outreach via intranet, internet, email, and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter). The position reports to the Deputy Director of RESEARCH.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and editorial support for the development and dissemination of communication materials.
  • Edit, write, or rewrite content for articles, working papers, newsletters, flagship reports, and other informational materials.
  • Support the implementation of RESEARCH’s communication and dissemination strategy.
  • Assist in the production of multimedia projects, including research, copyright acquisition, editing, and audio mixing, in close collaboration with DCOMM.
  • Edit, upload, and manage digital content for the ILO’s intranet, public website, and social media channels.
    Organize webinars, research seminars, and virtual events via the ILO LIVE broadcast platform.
  • Deliver training and outreach sessions for Department staff on communication and dissemination strategies.
  • Manage and refine the Department’s research knowledge platform, databases, mailing lists, and monthly newsletters.
  • Prepare reports related to communication and dissemination efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • First-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations, liberal arts, or a related field.
  • Three years of professional experience in public information, communications, or a related field.
  • Excellent command of one working language (English, French, Spanish) of the Organization and a working knowledge of a second ILO working language. Knowledge of a third working language is an advantage.
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to tailor messages to culturally diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of the ILO’s mandate and program activities.
  • Proficiency in digital content management and information dissemination tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to working in a multicultural environment and upholding gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory practices.
