the European AI & Society Fund is a pooled fund that supports public interest organisations across Europe working at the intersection of AI and social justice. With 17 funding partners and over €5.5 million in income, the Fund supports more than 50 organisations through grantmaking, community-building, and thought leadership. Hosted by the Network of European Foundations (NEF), the Fund benefits from a strong operational framework and legal and financial infrastructure.
As the Fund enters its next strategic period in 2026, the Co-Director (Delivery) will play a critical role in scaling its impact and ensuring strong governance, financial management, and team wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate strategic vision into effective planning and execution, ensuring smooth coordination with NEF and relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee governance structures, innovating where necessary to adapt to the Fund’s growing profile and evolving needs.
- Support a small, distributed team to thrive, ensuring training, capacity building, and alignment with the Fund’s values and NEF policies.
- Lead financial planning in collaboration with NEF operations, ensuring strategic and responsive use of resources.
- Risk management & safeguarding: Identify and mitigate organisational risks, address issues among grantees and stakeholders, and uphold safeguarding practices.
- Share responsibility with the Co-Director (Programmes) for shaping and executing the Fund’s overall strategy and organisational development.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in grantmaking delivery and/or philanthropy.
- Strong leadership experience, ideally including managing a distributed team.
- Demonstrated ability to grow and scale organisations with diverse stakeholders and activities.
- Entrepreneurial, adaptable, and solutions-oriented, with a track record of seizing opportunities in fast-moving contexts.
- Collaborative and empathetic leadership style, with excellent people skills and ability to support professional growth.
- High-level professionalism, sound judgement, and capacity to work effectively in uncertain or changing environments.
- Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities without losing sight of strategic goals.
- Strong commitment to the mission and values of the European AI & Society Fund.
