The Asia Media Fellows Program provides support for seasoned journalists from distressed media markets in the Asia-Pacific region each year who remain committed to independent journalism to visit Georgetown University in Washington, DC to conduct research and to engage with policymakers, the US media, NGOs and think tanks.

Georgetown University is pleased to offer fellowships for up to two seasoned journalists from distressed media markets in the Asia-Pacific. By helping fellows to explore new directions for their careers in media, the fellowship program aims to support independent media in Asia.

About the Asia Media Fellows Program
  • This residential fellowship is based at Georgetown University and requires that fellows reside in Washington DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia by their date of hire.
  • Fellows will be hosted by the Asian Studies Program in Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service.
  • This program is available for any 4 month period during the 2024-2025 academic year (September 2024 – May 2025).
  • Recipients of this fellowship will conduct research and engage with policymakers, US media, NGOs, and think tanks in the US.
  • Recipients will initiate the topic of their interest and submit a research paper for publication at the end of their programs.
  • Fellows will receive a US$20,000 stipend. The recipient will be responsible for flights, food, lodging, visa, and travel expenses during the duration of this program.
Education/Experience Requirements
  • A university degree in journalism, international relations, political science, public policy, or other relevant field is required; an advanced degree at the masters or doctoral level is preferred.
  • Successful applicants will have at least five years of experience working in journalism and demonstrate a commitment to independent journalism.
  • Demonstrable expertise in the political, economic, and social affairs of the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Applicants should demonstrate a proficiency in an Asian language.
