Radio Tuungane Minembwe is a media and social communication program initiated by the Peasant Association for Integrated Development in South Kivu. It is the unique radio broadcasting from the highlands of Minembwe and Itombwe.
The radio creation comes from different communities willing to facilitate the population’s access to information and to open up the highlands with means of new information and communication technologies. Therefore, since December 2009, Radio Tuungane has been set, notably thanks to the support of the American NGO NED, National Endowment for Democracy.
The Radio Tuungane Minembwe works as a source of information for local communities such as farmers and herders living in the highlands. It enables the population to get reliable, verified and high-quality information meanwhile providing easy access to information for peaceful coexistence in order to achieve economic development in rural areas.
The radio aims to: produce and disseminate reliable and independent information; provide a framework for reinforcing media standards; serve as a focal point for local journalists; promote a culture of peace, democracy and respect for human rights; promote the culture of freedom of expression; encourage local development initiatives in the community; promote good governance in local communities and authorities.
