CLD LAUNCHES RIGHT TO INFORMATION IMPLEMENTATION METHODOLOGY
21. February 2019
|On 21 February, the Centre for Law and Democracy (CLD) launched a methodology aiming to assess Right to Information (RTI) implementation laws in Pakistan during a workshop held in Islamabad. This tool, which will be used to review the enforcement quality of RTI laws, was developed by CLD in collaboration with the Information Commissions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces in Pakistan as well as other local stakeholders.
Related to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, specifically target 10, indicator 2, the methodology offers the ability to analyse the extent to which states have implemented their public access to information legislation. It plays an important role by filling the gap between the establishment of RTI laws and their effective implementation.
The methodology is currently being applied to the context of Pakistan, however, Centre for Law and Democracy will also develop a version of the methodology that can be more effectively applied to other countries.
