Desk Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean

CAMECO, a non-profit consultancy specialising in media and communication in the Global South and countries in transition, is looking for a Desk Officer. As Desk Officer, you will combine regional expertise with professional knowledge of media, communication and development cooperation.

The position offers a creative scope and a diverse field for your professional development. CAMECO offer an initial one-year contract, starting in January 2027, with the possibility of extension, a competitive salary, and social benefits package including an additional pension fund, and they are open to family-friendly working arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Reviewing and assessing project proposals from partner organisations in Latin America and the Caribbean;
• Accompanying partners in the planning, implementation and further development of media and communication initiatives;
• Developing and managing media development projects funded by public donors and private foundations;
• Actively contributing to CAMECO’s evolving areas of work, including Digital Literacy, Digital Capacity Development and Design Thinking.

Eligibility

• University degree in a field relevant to the tasks (e.g., communication studies, journalism, Latin American studies, ethnology or development studies)
• Previous professional experience in the media industry and/or in development cooperation
• Substantial international experience, preferably in Latin America, and a sound understanding of the region’s social, political and media contexts
• Experience in digital literacy education, capacity building, training or coaching
• Familiarity with community, social, non-profit and/or Church-related media and communication
• Experience in project development and project cycle management
• A good understanding of current debates and approaches in international development and media development
• Experience in working with NGOs, committees and associations, funding organisations or comparable institutions.
• CAMECO’s history and mandate are closely connected with the Catholic Church and international faith-based development cooperation. The position therefore requires a sound understanding or openness to working within Catholic and other faith-based institutional contexts.
