Call for inputs: Strategic Priorities and Vision-Setting of the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression

The UN Special Rapporteur is inviting stakeholders to submit information, views and recommendations. These will inform their 2027 vision-setting report and the mandate’s strategic priorities for 2026–2029, to be presented to the Human Rights Council in June 2027.

Details

• Journalists, civil society organisations, academics, human rights defenders, digital and technology experts, Member States and international organisations are all invited to share views and identify key issues.
• There are four themes: violence and threats against free expression (including SLAPPs, transnational repression and journalists in exile); digital information ecosystems and AI; gender, youth and intersectionality; and democratic backsliding and civic space.
• This questionnaire is the first step in a wider process. Thematic and regional consultations, online and in person, will follow in the coming months.
• Submissions can be up to 2,500 words, in Word format, in English, French or Spanish.
