The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada Media Fellowship Programme offers two Canadian journalists the opportunity to spend time in Asia researching and preparing stories for Canadian audiences. The programme’s goal is to help journalists become better informed about the Asia-Pacific region and produce insightful reporting on Asia and Canada-Asia relations. Proposals addressing the Foundation’s current priority areas — emerging technology, AI and data governance, economic security, supply-chain resilience, maritime governance and security, energy security, climate solutions, space, trade and investment, and the Arctic — will receive preferential consideration. Selected fellows will receive up to CAD 10,000 (for travel, accommodation, and in-country expenses).
Eligibility
- Open to any journalist who is a citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada, employed by a Canadian magazine, newspaper, news service, business publication, radio or television station, new media or multimedia outlet as a reporter, feature writer, or columnist, or working as a freelancer.
- Applicants must have at least two years of professional journalism experience and an established history of publication in Canadian news media.
- Applicants must ensure they hold or are eligible for the appropriate visas to enter, transit, and exit their country or countries of interest.
- Previous recipients of APF Canada Media Fellowship awards are not eligible to reapply until three years after their most recent award.
Requirements
- A proposal of 500–750 words (maximum) demonstrating the motivation and rationale for the chosen topic and its relevance to Canadian audiences, with a detailed plan of execution and dissemination, including outlets for publication or broadcast.
- A budget of up to CAD 10,000 covering travel, accommodation, and in-country expenses.
A current CV. - Two examples of written or broadcast work, with links preferred; alternatively, a single PDF or digital media files.
- A letter from a prospective editor or producer expressing willingness, in principle, to publish or broadcast the resulting stories.
