The UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2026, under the theme of “Play Your Part: Youth Designing the Future of Media and Information Literacy”, recognizes young people as key drivers of innovation and change, empowering them to contribute their creativity, leadership, and diverse perspectives to advance Media and Information Literacy (MIL) worldwide. All registered participants will have access to a two-day mentoring programme scheduled for 1 – 2 July featuring experts in Media and Information Literacy (MIL), digital transformation, artificial intelligence, project development, and innovation.
Details
- Teams must be made up of 2–6 members (national, regional, or international), with all members between the ages of 18 and 30
- Teams must prepare a proposal document (Include team members, problem statement, objectives, target audience, prototype or concept, sustainability, creativity, and feasibility) and a pitch video that showcases your project idea in a clear and engaging way.
- The winning teams will be invited by UNESCO to participate in the Voices European Festival of Journalism and Media Freedom in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 26–28 November 2026, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their projects and engage with other stakeholders.
