Opinion Editor – Digital English

Al Jazeera Media Network’s English Digital Division is seeking an Opinion Editor to lead one of the most influential opinion platforms in global journalism. This is a senior editorial leadership role for a dynamic editor who can shape conversations, drive thought-provoking content, and expand the reach and impact of their opinion section across digital platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Opinion team, setting editorial priorities and coverage plans.
  Commission, edit, and oversee high-quality opinion and analysis content.
• Build and grow a diverse global network of contributors, commentators, academics, and thought leaders.
• Collaborate with News, Planning, Engagement, and Product teams to maximize audience reach and content performance.
• Drive innovation in storytelling formats, audience engagement, and editorial initiatives.
• Lead special projects, partnerships, and external collaborations with leading publications and contributors.
• Mentor and develop editorial talent while maintaining the highest editorial standards and ethics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of experience in reporting, editing, and digital publishing.
• Strong editorial judgment with a proven track record in opinion, analysis, or long-form journalism.
• Experience leading editorial teams in a fast-paced digital newsroom.
• Established network of contributors and subject-matter experts.
• Passion for global affairs, current events, and audience-focused digital journalism.
