The Society of Professional Journalists Foundation today opened its 2026 grant cycle and invites applications from journalists, media professionals and organisations working to strengthen press freedom, support newsroom resilience and advance public trust in credible journalism.

The 2026 grant cycle will prioritise initiatives that advocate for journalists and journalism, defend press freedom, promote media literacy and help build public trust in credible news.

Eligibility

  • Applicants should submit proposals that clearly align with SPJ’s mission and current priorities.
  • Applicants should demonstrate how their work will support journalists and protect credible reporting.
  • Applications should include realistic goals, a clear budget and measurable outcomes.
  • The Foundation encourages ambitious ideas that remain feasible and grounded in achievable impact.

How to apply

Applicants must submit proposals by 11:59 p.m. EDT Aug. 13. Applicants will be notified about funding decisions in late October. Awardees must return signed agreements in November 2026, and the foundation will disburse initial funds at that time. Apply here.
