The Ocean Connection Call for Proposals offers grants to support journalists producing high-quality reporting on climate adaptation and ocean conservation in coastal cities in Brazil. The Fundação Grupo Boticário de Proteção à Natureza, in cooperation with UNESCO, has launched the sixth edition of the Ocean Connection Environmental Communication Call for Proposals.
The initiative aims to foster the production of high-quality journalistic content capable of sensitizing, raising awareness, and engaging society in the conservation of the ocean. Up to five reporting projects will be selected, each receiving grants of R$ 10,000. This edition focuses on supporting the production of reports or series of reports on the theme “Nature-Based Solutions for Coastal Cities”.
Thematics
- The topics should emphasize the strategic role of ecosystems such as coastal dunes, salt marshes, mangroves, and coral reefs, demonstrating how their conservation or restoration acts as a natural barrier against erosion, sea level rise, and extreme events such as floods and inundations.
- Approaches that translate the concept of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) into everyday life will be valued, showing how these actions help address social challenges while generating benefits for people and biodiversity.
- Journalists interested in participating can submit up to two reporting projects or series of reports, intended for print, television, radio, or digital media.
Eligibility
- Professionals with a degree in Journalism or who can prove they have been regularly practicing journalism for at least two years are eligible to apply, without needing prior specialization in environmental coverage.
- The selection will consider the following criteria: creativity and originality of the topic; relevance of the theme to society; consistency of the reporting and dissemination plan; curriculum and quality of previous productions; reach of the media outlet in which the material will be published.
- Entries can be submitted individually or in pairs, and selected reports must be published by the end of November of this year. In previous editions, the Conexão Oceano (Ocean Connection) grant supported the production of reports on different aspects related to ocean sustainability, as well as works by photographers and artists.
