The Media Forward Fund (MFF) is offering Launch Grants (project financing) to supports public welfare-oriented media organizations based in Switzerland to launch in the market in Romandie a previously untested and thus new offer, format, distribution channel or revenue source for the organization on the regional market. The aim of the funding is the establishment, validation or sharpening of the respective business model.

The projects make an important contribution to the regional media supply in Romandie and ideally use approaches that differs from existing approaches in the DACH region and/or in the media market of French-speaking Western Switzerland. For small and large non-profit media organizations, the Fund awards project funding of usually up to CHF 125,000,- for one year.

Eligibility

A media organisation or its project is eligible provided that all of the following requirements are met:

  • The organization already exists or has recently been founded
  • The organization has its registered headquarters as a corporation at least in Switzerland, but in the best case in the cantons of Romandie, for which additional points are awarded
  • The organization is non-profitThe organization embodies democratic values
  • The organization is already journalistic-publicist with a focus on Romandie
  • French is the main language of reporting – so most of the content is genuinely French-speaking and not just translated into French
  • The organization must be public welfare-oriented. This means that the turnover of their work is mainly generated with the intention of strengthening journalism in its social task to promote popular education and democracy.
  • It works on the basis of recognized journalistic-editorial standards and is committed to the principles of the Swiss Press Council.
  • The project to be launched is a previously untested for the organization on the market and thus new offer, format, distribution channel or revenue source in the journalistic-journalistic area with a focus on Romandie
