Deadline: Ongoing

We are looking for a Cloud Services Operations Intern who will be the operational backbone of the Journalism Cloud Alliance’s (JCA) cloud services programme. As the first dedicated operations hire, the intern will handle the intake process for new member requests, keep our CRM and tracking systems up to date, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks as we scale from pilot to full service.
About the JCA
The Journalism Cloud Alliance helps investigative journalism organisations access affordable, secure cloud infrastructure. We connect newsrooms with vetted infrastructure providers, negotiate group discounts, and provide advisory support for migrations and service setup. Our members include investigative media organisations across Latin America, South Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Responsibilities
- Intake triage: Receive incoming support requests from JCA members, log them in Odoo CRM, and do initial categorisation (infrastructure, communications, publishing, custom, or referral)
- Case tracking: Keep the pipeline updated — which cases are in screening, which are with providers, which have active proposals, which are closed
- Documentation: Maintain internal records: meeting notes, provider correspondence, case files, pricing sheets
- Member follow-ups: Send acknowledgement emails, schedule scoping calls, and follow up on pending items
- Provider coordination: Help prepare case briefs for infrastructure providers, track their responses, and flag delays
- Data entry and reporting: Update the services catalogue, maintain the partner capabilities map, and help produce progress reports for funders
Requirements
- Organised and detail-oriented — you don’t drop things
- Comfortable with CRM tools, spreadsheets, and basic project management
- Good written English (member communication is in English)
- Interest in journalism, media freedom, digital rights, or nonprofit tech
- Familiarity with cloud services terminology is a plus, but not required — we’ll teach you
- Available for at least 15 hours/week for 4-6 months with some flexibility for meeting times across time zones
Nice to Have
- Experience with Odoo, HubSpot, or similar CRM platforms
- Experience in a nonprofit, NGO, or media support organisation
- Basic understanding of hosting concepts (VPS, domains, DNS, email hosting)
- Spanish, French, or Portuguese (some members communicate in these languages)
What We Offer
- US$500 (EUR 400) per month
- Meaningful work supporting press freedom and investigative journalism worldwide
- Direct exposure to cloud infrastructure, digital security, and nonprofit operations
- Mentorship from experienced practitioners in the journalism support ecosystem
- Flexible remote work with asynchronous communication
- A reference letter and professional network in the media development sector
