The fellowship focuses on strengthening journalism in the areas of human rights and social justice while supporting professional development through academic coursework, research opportunities, and hands-on newsroom experience.
What the Program offers
- The program enables selected fellows to undertake research and coursework at MIT’s Center for International Studies.
- They also gain practical experience through journalism internships at The Boston Globe and The New York Times.
- Its flexible structure allows fellows to refine their reporting skills and pursue academic interests, with opportunities to publish their work under their byline in various media outlets.
- The fellowship is fully funded, covering travel, accommodation, and living expenses during the program, along with access to academic and professional training opportunities.
Eligibility
- The Neuffer Fellowship is designed for women, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming journalists who have at least three years of full-time professional experience in print, broadcast, or digital media, either as staff journalists or freelancers.
- Applicants must be working journalists, as internships or student journalism experience are not considered.
