DW Akademie is looking for a Project Officer for its EU-funded project SUSTAIN MEDIA – Support to Media Freedom and Pluralism in the Western Balkans.

This is a full-time freelance position (max. 220 days p.a.) with competitive remuneration. The position is planned for 34 months, starting March 1, 2026, based on annually renewed contracts. A continuous engagement over the full period is intended but not guaranteed.

The project forms part of a bigger EU-funded project, which is led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as lead implementor. DW Akademie is responsible for the consulting services and trainings for media partners.  The project aims to strengthen media outlets in the six Western Balkan countries through capacity building in business models, audience development, and innovative formats.

Scope of work

The Project Officer will work closely with the project team based in Germany and Serbia and support the project manager located in Serbia, focusing on the project line Audience and Format Development. Tasks include:

  • Support the project manager in planning, implementing and monitoring activities, including budget planning and monitoring, cash management, and procurement.
  • Jointly with the project manager, identify and recruit consultants working with the DW Akademie, primarily in the project line Audience and Format Development, acting as the main contact person.
  • Ensure the documentation of assigned activities.
  • Support the project manager in conceptual development of project activities, in preparing donor reports, and overall communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the project manager in organising and implementing DW Akademie events and visibility activities.
  • Support the project manager in communicating with the media beneficiaries on the project activities, such as needs assessments, consulting sessions, and trainings
  • Supporting the project manager in maintaining contacts with donors, media outlets and other stakeholders
  • Representing DW Akademie at conferences and other events where necessary
  • Coordinating project-related travel
  • Conducting research as required for the project
