African Women in Media

Region: Sub-Saharan Africa

African Women in Media (AWiM) is a pan-African organisation committed to creating enabling environments for women working in media and transforming how women are represented in media content. Through research, advocacy, training, and multi-stakeholder partnerships, AWiM advances gender equity, inclusion, and professional empowerment across the media landscape.
AWiM’s flagship initiatives include the annual AWiM Conference—now evolving into the AWiM Global Forum—the Mediapreneurship Programme, the AWiMLearning platform, and the HerMediaDiary podcast. The organisation also leads evidence-based research and policy advocacy that strengthens gender-responsive media systems across Africa, amplifying women’s voices and driving structural change in the industry.
