Head of Digital HEO

The Head of Digital HEO role leads digital communications for both the British High Commission Nairobi and the British Embassy Mogadishu, overseeing strategy, content, digital skills development, analytics, and internal communications.

 Key Responsibilities 

• Lead digital content creation across 7 social media channels (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Build and implement a channel + content strategy tailored to Kenya & Somalia.
• Ensure creative, impactful, culturally informed digital outputs.
• Manage two Digital Communications Assistants.
• Oversee digital workflows, quality assurance, timely delivery.
• Help improve digital skills across a 7–8 member Communications Team.
• Manage equipment inventory, including procurement.
• Produce and oversee multimedia content (photo, video, copy).
• Edit and standardise content according to FCDO standards.
• Manage updates and publications on GOV.UK, including news and documentation.
• Performance across META, X, and other platforms
• Produce quarterly M&E reports for senior audiences (up to Ambassador level).
• Use insights to diversify and increase reach.
• Work with national and regional communications partners to expand reach.
• Serve as Media Manager during crisis events.
• Deputise for Deputy Head of Team and sometimes Head of Team.

Eligibility

• Excellent written & spoken English
• Background in media or communications
• Strong understanding of Kenya & Somalia’s digital landscape
• Digital production skills (photography, videography, editing)
• Monitoring & evaluation skills (Meta Insights, X Analytics, etc.)
• Experience managing people or projects

• Already legally able to live/work in Kenya (no work-permit sponsorship).
