As the senior journalist reporter working closely with the Assistant Editor, you’ll be one of the public voices and faces of BBC Shetland. One day you might cover a debate on the closure of a rural school; the next, you could be reporting for national news on power cuts or severe weather across the islands.
This role requires resilience, strong people skills, and a willingness to get involved with anything the newsroom needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold and continuously develop high professional standards of journalism across all BBC Shetland output.
- Help grow programme content across social media and digital platforms.
- Support and guide a small team of dedicated journalists, helping develop their skills as reporters and broadcasters.
- Deputise for the Assistant Editor when needed.
- Liaise regularly with the main newsgathering operation in Glasgow.
Skills & Experience
- Exceptional understanding of the issues impacting daily life in Shetland.
- At least three years of full-time journalism experience with a strong record of generating original stories.
- At least three years of experience in broadcasting live radio news and related content.
