China Correspondent

The Guardian is seeking a China Correspondent to report on China and the wider region across all Guardian platforms. The correspondent will produce a range of content—including daily news, analysis, features, financial reporting, multimedia material, and occasional contributions to non-news sections.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the China team to identify and deliver news, analysis, and feature stories.
• Work closely with international editors to develop high-impact content.
• Produce written, audio, video, and multimedia content for all Guardian News & Media platforms.
• Maintain ongoing communication with international editors on stories in development.
• Help innovate and advance digital storytelling approaches.
• Stay updated on regional developments and translate them into compelling journalism.
• Coordinate with the visuals team to ensure engaging and relevant visual storytelling.

Eligibility

• Strong knowledge of China and the wider region.
• Language skills preferred but not essential.
• Extensive experience as a senior journalist, ideally for a national or international outlet.
• Proven ability to deliver exclusive, complex stories with global impact.
• Experience contributing to podcasts and working with audio/video teams is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of digital journalism demands.
• Demonstrated ability to write breaking news, in-depth analysis, and high-quality features.
• Ability to bring diverse perspectives to editorial work.
