Journalism Studies Division – Call for Papers

The Journalism Studies Division of the International Communication Association (ICA) invites submissions for the 76th Annual ICA Conference, to be held in 2026. The Division welcomes research that deepens our understanding of journalism’s role, structures, and transformations across local and global contexts.

Scholars are encouraged to submit papers, panel proposals, or extended abstracts that explore how journalism interacts with power, technology, and society — as well as studies that challenge or refine core concepts such as “news,” “media,” and “journalism.”

A US $1,000 Travel Award, sponsored by Nanyang Technological University, will be granted to an author residing in a Tier C country whose submission is accepted to ICA 2026.

Objectives
  • Advance critical and comparative understanding of journalism’s roles in society.
  • Explore structural, cultural, and technological influences on journalism and news work.
  • Examine economic and business models shaping journalism’s future.
  • Analyze evolving journalistic practices, audience engagement, and media ethics.
  • Foster theoretical, methodological, and cross-regional dialogue within journalism research.
