Rainforest Reporting Grant

• Eligibility Criteria: Open to staff and freelance journalists with ambitious project-based reporting proposals. Applications are accepted in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Bahasa Indonesia. Teams that reflect the communities they report on are encouraged. Not eligible: books (unless a story will be published independently), feature-length films, staff salaries (except certain fellowships), equipment purchases (rentals may be considered), general outlet expenses, start-up seed money, routine breaking news, advocacy campaigns, or purely academic data projects.
• Type of Funding: Short-term, project-based grants supporting investigative reporting on tropical rainforests.
• Target Region: Amazon, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia.
• Application Language: Applications are accepted in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Bahasa Indonesia via the Pulitzer Center application portal.

Objectives

To raise public awareness and demand accountability on critical issues affecting tropical rainforests, while supporting impactful journalism that highlights environmental challenges, Indigenous rights, extractive industries, biodiversity, and conservation efforts.
