The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ) is seeking a Director of Journalist Programmes to lead the delivery, strategic development, and financial sustainability of all journalist programmes at the Institute.
This senior leadership position is central to expanding the global impact of RISJ’s work at the intersection of journalism, research, and media policy. The successful candidate will join the senior management team and report directly to the Institute Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall strategic development, management, and coordination of all journalist-focused programmes.
- Oversee the flagship Reuters Journalist Fellowship Programme, Oxford Climate Journalism Network, and short courses.
- Ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the programmes through fundraising and partnership development.
- Represent the Institute at international forums and events, engaging with key stakeholders from journalism, academia, and policy sectors.
- Provide editorial and operational leadership across journalist programmes.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective funders, fellows, and institutional partners.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised senior editorial leader with an international profile.
- Proven track record of leadership in journalism and programme management.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising and securing institutional partnerships.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic, media, and policy professionals.
- Must be based in Oxford or willing to relocate, as this is a hands-on, in-person role.
