European Network of Fact-checkers

• Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be based in EU Member States or countries associated with the Digital Europe Programme, as described in Section 6 of the call document.
  Eligible applicants include: Fact-checking organisations and networks, including newly established entities, Research institutions, media literacy practitioners, and media professionals, Consortia combining fact-checkers, researchers, and civil society actors working in the field of disinformation. Applicants must comply with the independence and transparency standards developed by the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN)

• Target Region: EU Member States and associated countries under the Digital Europe Programme, including candidate and accession countries
• Application Language: English

Objectives

• Strengthen the capacity and language coverage of fact-checking across Europe
• Maintain and expand the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) platform
• Support cooperation among fact-checkers, researchers, and media literacy experts to counter disinformation
• Build technical infrastructure and tools for fact-checking activities
• Empower European fact-checkers to contribute to the European Democracy Shield

• Peer-to-peer support between established and emerging fact-checking organisations
• Development of technical tools and infrastructure to support fact-checking operations
• Targeted training for fact-checkers and media professionals, especially in underrepresented languages and regions
• Expansion of multilingual and regional fact-checking coverage in vulnerable areas
• Ensuring alignment with EFCSN’s independence and transparency standards
