Bread&Net 2025: Call for Proposals Now Open

Status: Open

Organisation: SMEX

Deadline: 31/07/2025

Location: West Asia and North Africa

Bread&Net, the region’s leading annual unconference on digital rights, is now accepting proposals for its 2025 edition. The gathering brings together activists, technologists, journalists, researchers, and civil society actors from across West Asia and North Africa to strategize, share knowledge, and collectively confront the political and social impacts of digital technologies in the Arabic-speaking world.

Held over three days, Bread&Net 2025 will provide a critical space for dialogue, collaboration, and movement-building. Participants will explore the threats and opportunities brought by technology expansion in the region and co-create solutions toward a safer, freer, and more just internet.

Responsibilities
  • Submit a proposal that explores digital rights themes such as surveillance, censorship, disinformation, access, internet governance, or online freedoms.
  • Design and facilitate a session during the unconference, which could take the form of a panel, workshop, roundtable, performance, or other participatory formats.
  • Engage with a diverse and regional community of practitioners, activists, and thinkers.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Open to individuals, collectives, and organizations working on or affected by digital rights issues in West Asia and North Africa.
  • Proposals must be relevant to the political and social impacts of technology in the region.
  • Sessions can be held in Arabic, English, or both.
  • Bread&Net strongly encourages proposals from underrepresented communities, including women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and Indigenous and racialized groups.

Deadline: July 31, 2025
