The African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) is offering two fellowship tracks for 2025 — one for early-career journalists under the age of 30 with five or fewer years of experience, and another for mid-career journalists with five or more years of experience. Applications from freelance journalists are welcome.
This fellowship supports journalists in attending AIJC 2025, held at Wits University in Johannesburg from 5 to 7 November 2025. Fellows will receive full sponsorship to participate in Africa’s premier gathering of investigative reporters, gaining exposure to cutting-edge tools, techniques, and regional collaboration opportunities.
Objectives
- Support journalists’ professional development through access to high-quality investigative journalism training and networking.
- Foster collaboration across experience levels and geographies.
- Inspire new investigations and story ideas through participation in AIJC panels, workshops, and discussions.
- Encourage the production of impactful investigative journalism following the conference.
Eligibility
- Early-career journalists under 30 years old with 5 or fewer years of professional experience.
- Mid-career journalists with 5 or more years of experience.
- Freelance journalists affiliated with credible media outlets are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants who hold a valid passport (must be valid at least six months beyond the conference dates).
- Journalists willing to produce and publish one investigative piece (print, online, or broadcast) inspired by the 2025 conference, within three months of its conclusion.
- Individuals able to provide proof of age and identity, and submit a CV that references published work.
