Code for Africa (CfA) is offering the 2025 African Academy for Open Source Investigation (AAOSI) Fellowship — a four-month program designed to empower six journalists in select African countries with cutting-edge open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media intelligence (SOCMINT) skills.

This fellowship aims to strengthen democratic accountability, enhance digital resilience, amplify youth civic engagement, and safeguard online spaces. Fellows will be supported in producing evidence-based investigations into disinformation, coordinated inauthentic behaviour (CIB), and other threats to information integrity.

Objectives
  • Equip journalists and watchdog NGOs with OSINT tools to expose disinformation and harmful narratives.
  • Tackle key threats like information manipulation, hate speech, AI-driven propaganda, and digital harassment.
  • Build a continent-wide network of OSINT investigators for cross-border collaboration.
  • Support journalists in producing evidence-driven, impactful journalism and reaching wider audiences.
Eligibility

This fellowship is open to:

  • Journalists based in the following countries:
  1. Sahel Region: Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, Senegal
  2. West Africa: Benin, Cameroon, Guinea, Togo
  3. East Africa: Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan
  • Reporters with a minimum of one year of journalism experience, particularly in investigative or data reporting
  • Individuals with recent publications (within the last two months)
  • Freelancers affiliated with credible media outlets or platforms
  • Journalists committed to producing and publishing two investigative reports during the program
  • Candidates able to participate in weekly training and mentorship sessions
  • Individuals fluent in either English or French
  • Applicants ready to share newly acquired skills with their newsroom or peers
