BBC is hiring Video Journalists for the Great Lakes region in Nairobi. This is a unique opportunity to join BBC Great Lakes (Gahuza), a respected provider of news and information in Kinyarwanda and Kirundi, delivering courageous journalism on issues ranging from politics and economics to health, environment, and social topics. As we expand our operations, we are seeking talented Video Journalists to help bring compelling stories from the Great Lakes region to a global audience.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should have:
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills in Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, and English.
- Proven experience in producing impactful short and mid-form videos that engage audiences and use social media effectively.
- Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues and turn them into engaging video narratives.
- In-depth knowledge of the news agenda across the Great Lakes region and its diaspora.
- Ability to produce eye-catching headlines and content, with a strong understanding of what makes a story shareable.
- Experience using social media to promote video content and engage with audiences.
- Creativity in using pictures, graphics, and audio to enhance fast-moving events and complex stories.
- Strong research skills to prepare for broadcasts, analyzing and distilling complex information.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, and a proactive approach to generating and executing story ideas.
- Knowledge of data and analytics tools, with evidence of using them effectively in the content creation process.
- An understanding of diverse cultural perspectives, and the ability to engage thoughtfully with a variety of community issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Shoot and edit high-quality video content for broadcast and digital platforms, ensuring it is visually engaging and adheres to BBC standards.
- Capture footage, conduct interviews, and create compelling visuals using appropriate video equipment and technology.
- Provide voiceovers for video segments when necessary, ensuring a strong narrative voice that enhances the content.
- Write clear, concise, and engaging scripts for video reports, ensuring accuracy and effective communication of the story.
- Attend events, press conferences, and breaking news situations to gather firsthand information and visual content.
- Present news stories and features live on air, adapting style and tone to suit different formats and audiences.
- Work closely with editorial teams, producers, and reporters to develop story ideas and contribute to the overall editorial direction.
- Collaborate with graphic design and digital teams to create web content, social media clips, and promotional materials.
- Oversee the digital presence of BBC Great Lakes, including social media platforms, and collaborate with other BBC departments for cross-platform features.
- Build and maintain diverse contact lists, collaborating with correspondents and contributors as needed.
