The ACOS Alliance is launching its first-ever USA Editor Safety Cohort Training Program, scheduled for June 2025, and is inviting applications from editors and newsroom managers working in US-based media outlets. The program offers 15 free places.
This cohort-based initiative revolves around The Fundamentals of Safe Commissioning course and includes structured weekly webinars and a one-on-one coaching session, allowing participants to tailor the training to their specific needs and challenges. Editors working with either staff or freelancers will find the training highly relevant and practical.
The USA cohort will be led by Michael Christie, an independent security consultant and former Head of Safety at Reuters. With years of experience as a journalist and as Reuters Bureau Chief in Iraq and the US Southeast and Caribbean, Mike brings deep expertise in journalist safety and field risk management.
Objectives
- Deliver enhanced, tailored safety training for editors and newsroom managers
- Empower editors to implement safe commissioning practices and improve safety protocols, especially for freelancers and under-resourced journalists
- Promote a strong culture of safety within media organizations
- Encourage the creation of peer support networks among editors for sharing safety resources and best practices
