The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is pleased to announce the Storytelling AI and Tech Accountability Reporting Fellowship — a three-month program aimed at equipping journalists in Nigeria with the skills, knowledge, and resources to report effectively on the societal impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology.
In an era where AI is rapidly transforming governance, economics, and how we access information, African journalists play a critical role in shaping public understanding. This fellowship supports in-depth storytelling that explores the ethical, social, and economic implications of AI systems and technological advancements across the continent.
Objectives
- Strengthen investigative and ethical journalism on AI and tech in Nigeria.
- Promote understanding of AI’s role in governance, healthcare, education, agriculture, and public life.
- Investigate critical issues like algorithmic bias, surveillance, data privacy, automation, disinformation, and the influence of big tech.
- Empower a new generation of journalists to report on AI ethics, regulation, and digital accountability in Africa.
Eligibility
This fellowship is open to:
- Journalists, researchers, and media professionals in Nigeria, especially those with experience in tech or digital policy.
- Reporters keen on covering AI’s impact in African society.
- Journalists committed to producing insightful, solutions-oriented, and ethical reporting.
- Female journalists and persons with disabilities (PWDs) are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Individuals with prior experience or interest in technology, governance, or digital transformation.
- Applicants must be fully available to participate in the fellowship’s training, mentorship, and networking activities.
