Transatlantic Media Fellowship 2025

Status: Open

Organisation: The Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung (HBS)

Deadline: 24/03/2025

The Transatlantic Media Fellowship Program offers journalists the opportunity to conduct in-depth, transatlantic reporting on democracy, social policy, technology, digital policy, foreign and security policy, and climate and environmental policy.

This year, the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Washington, DC, invites journalists from the United States, Canada, Germany, and the Global South to apply for fellowships that include on-the-ground and digital reporting opportunities. Fellows will receive stipends and support to produce high-quality journalism on critical issues shaping global discourse.

Objectives
  • Promote informed, cross-continental journalism that connects policy debates between the United States, Canada, Germany, and the Global South.
  • Provide journalists with the resources and stipends needed to conduct thorough on-the-ground or digital research on pressing issues related to democracy, technology, security, and climate policies.
  • Encourage applications from regional or local media journalists and freelancers who offer unique, lesser-heard perspectives, particularly from underrepresented voices in global media discourse.
  • Enable journalists to produce high-quality, investigative stories that contribute to a deeper understanding of transatlantic relations and global policy challenges.
  • Equip fellows with mentorship, editorial guidance, and networking opportunities.
Eligibility
  • Open to journalists with a strong track record in any medium
  • U.S., Canada, or Germany-based journalists must demonstrate interest in reporting on the opposite region
  • Journalists from Africa, Asia, or Latin America must focus on Global South topics related to the U.S., Canada, or Germany
  • Applicants should be motivated, experienced, and preferably work with regional/local outlets or as freelancers
  • Travel and visa arrangements are the responsibility of the fellows

Deadline: Applications are open until March 24, 2025.
